Success for children of the planet: Declaration at G7 Summit

At the G7 Summit held in Italy, world leaders underscored their unwavering commitment to promoting job quality and ensuring decent work for all. Central to their declaration was a strong focus on the eradication of child labor and the promotion of safe and healthy working environments. Emphasizing the fundamental principles and rights at work, the declaration highlighted the pivotal role of social dialogue and collective bargaining in achieving these goals.

The G7 leaders reaffirmed their dedication to upholding international labor standards and human rights, aiming to foster fair and non-exploitative working conditions within global value chains. Special emphasis was placed on the conventions adopted by the International Labour Organization (ILO), with a commitment to intensify efforts to eliminate all forms of forced, compulsory, and child labor.

In addition to addressing child labor, the declaration stressed the importance of advancing the inclusion of persons with disabilities and accelerating gender equality in the workplace. The leaders highlighted the need for continuous investment in human capital and lifelong learning systems to ensure high-quality job opportunities, particularly in the burgeoning green and digital economies.

The declaration also addressed the challenges posed by ageing societies, advocating for resilient labor markets and the promotion of active and healthy ageing. The G7 leaders committed to overcoming barriers to labor market participation for underrepresented groups and enhancing working conditions in the care sector to attract qualified workers and better support citizens throughout their lives.

By focusing on these critical issues, the G7 Summit in Italy has set a clear agenda for promoting decent work, eradicating child labor, and ensuring inclusive and equitable employment opportunities worldwide.
